About

I am a 30 year old, proudly working class student, passionate about social justice and equity in education, particularly in HE.

I have recently started studying for my PhD at Birmingham City University. My doctorate is examining the factors that shape students transitions both into, and out of higher education and I am planning to use a social-biographical methodology to explore the ways that individual students experience higher education, and how this experience interacts with, and impacts upon, their own sense of identity. I am also interested in exploring how the current neo-liberal, marketised discourse surrounding HE policy is mediated by a post-1992 institution and how this is felt by individual students.
